This week's featured artist

This week Fawn is happy to showcase local photographer, Laura Goulding.

Laura has a card line in our shop that is full of vivid colors and has a unique take on ordinary objects.

Her birthday cards offer a vintage feel and are a gift in themselves.

Any of her cards can be special ordered and made into prints of any size.

Here is how Laura got her start.......

I first started taking pictures with a disposable camera in high school, mostly of my friends goofing off. I had to drop off my film and wait three days to get my pictures back before I knew if any of them turned out. That kind of pressure prepared me for my five years in the U.S. Navy as a photojournalist.

I still take pictures of people goofing off, but as a dedicated freelance photographer, my focus now is on finding the extraordinary beauty in everyday objects that people often overlook. I also do commission work on request, such as real estate, pictures of artwork, and special occasion photos.

I have since upgraded to an 8.2 megapixel Canon EOS 20D – a digital SLR - with a few different lenses to get the look I want. I do all of my own post-production editing before having the images developed professionally. Not coincidentally, the quality of my images has skyrocketed since high school.

I shoot anything that catches my eye, but I definitely find myself drawn to vivid colors and textures. I favor simple composition and clean lines in my photos. I love to snap images that capture a feeling or memory for the viewer; if I can do that, I feel successful.
